Eiko Shimada, haiku poet, was born in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. She received a B.A. in English and American Literature from the Buddhism University in Kyoto, Japan. She moved from Tokyo to Chicago in 2003, and she lives next to Lake Michigan. She has read her haiku in both Japanese and English at Cathleen Schandelmeier's Beach Poets series. She enjoys flowers, calligraphy, Chi Gong, and tea time (matcha -- powdered Japanese green tea leaves) with her favorite raku-yaki tea bowl from Germany.
